A 13th-century salt mine that looks like a Bond villain's lair — boats, a Ferris wheel, underground.
Salina Turda has been mined since Roman times and operated commercially until 1932. In the 2010s the city renovated it as a museum and "underground theme park". The result is genuinely strange — galleries 120 metres deep with a small Ferris wheel, an underground lake with rowing boats, halotherapy chambers. Children love it. The micro-climate is famously good for asthma.
