We look for stays that offer more than a bed. A view you remember. A host who knows the region. A breakfast that tastes local. A roadtrip route that makes the journey part of the experience.

What we mean by remote

Not "in the middle of nowhere", but "not in the middle of everything". A village where the loudest sound at night is the river. A meadow where you can hear the wind move from one ridge to the next. A house with one neighbour and a long view.

Our criteria

View. A window that does work — onto a ridge, an orchard, a valley, a wide piece of sky.

Architecture. Local materials, original beams or oak floors where possible, restraint with everything else.

Nature access. A trail starting at the gate. A river within ten minutes. A road that ends here.

Hosts. A person who knows the region, can write your dinner reservation, knows the priest with the keys to the fortified church.

Silence. No motorway noise. No nightclubs within 30 km. No through traffic.

Reachable despite the remoteness. A drivable road, a 4G signal somewhere in the village if you need it, a hospital under an hour away.
